Future Aquaculture

EUROFISH, with the support of the European Commission, Directorate General for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs and Italy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Policies, organized a two-day conference for industry and trade in Duino (Trieste), Italy, on 14-15 September 2006.

CONFERENCE THEME

The Conference addressed the opportunities and challenges of aquaculture in Europe, with a regional focus on the southern and eastern areas of Europe including EU member countries, accession countries and countries closely cooperating with the EU.

The Conference provided the most recent knowledge on
the following key issues:
• Sustainable production and protection of the environment
• Access to new technologies and production concepts
• The role of the market and of the consumers for the development of aquaculture
• Public health
• Policies and management

The targeted participants at the Conference were from the industry (fish farmers, processors, feed and technology suppliers, traders), but also associations and public sector representatives.

Future Aquaculture was a forum for networking, exchange of information and provided ample space for debates and interaction among participants.

conference.

- European Aquaculture Society; NACEE
- Network of Aquaculture centers in Central-

The Future Aquaculture Conference was held at the Duino Castle (Castello di Duino) which overlooks the Gulf of Trieste and is surrounded by magnificent gardens.

The Congress room provides 150 seats, has air-conditioning and offers modern facilities and audiovisual equipment for presentations.

HOW TO GET TO DUINO CASTLE

The castle is situated on the Monfalcone-Trieste road, 20 km east of Trieste Airport and is easy to reach.

By plane: Trieste International Airport (Ronchi dei Legionari)
By car: from the A4, Trieste-Venice motorway located at about 5
kilometers from the toll barrier (follow the appropriate signs)
By train: Monfalcone railway station
