Under the framework of activities of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) Aquaculture Task Force (ATF) for the definition of a “Strategy for the sustainable development of Mediterranean and Black Sea Aquaculture” EUROFISH contributed to a study “Improving knowledge on markets of aquaculture products and industry including consumption patterns and on image of aquaculture products”. This activity, which was also in the framework of the GFCM aquaculture multi-stakeholder platform (AMShP) Strategic Area 5 “Quality and safety of products, markets and consumers”, included a comprehensive report on aquaculture market and industry in the Mediterranean and Black Sea region based on national reports. Each national report was structured in three parts: Part I (Production and structure of Aquaculture sector in Mediterranean and Black Sea countries); Part II (Markets, Consumption and Safety/Quality of aquaculture Products); and Part III (Conclusions and Key Points for the GFCM Aquaculture Task Force).
EUROFISH developed Part I and Part II of the national reports for 13 countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey.
EUROFISH worked together with GFCM, INFOSAMAK and University of Mersin, Turkey.
