More than half of the fish products consumed worldwide originate from aquaculture. With increasing seafood consumption levels everywhere and declining wild fish stocks, the pressure on the aquaculture sector to supply the world market with fish is likely to grow strongly over the next few decades.
The central and eastern Europe aquaculture sector is still relatively small despite offering interesting possibilities to increase levels of production (proximity to the market – the EU, Russia and the Ukraine; know-how, traditional species, good level of infrastructure, etc.) EUROFISH is therefore promoting projects to support the development of the aquaculture industry in the region.
EUROFISH aims at creating a bridge between its western European member countries which are among the major and more efficient aquaculture nations of the world (e.g. Norway, Spain, Italy and Denmark) and its eastern European and Mediterranean member countries which are looking to develop their industries.
EUROFISH offers of a broad range of expertise that enables us to conduct surveys and implement projects for both the aquaculture industry and authorities.
